People are always asking me, “why is your brand DOstamping?”. That’s a good question and here’s the answer:
- My name? Dawn Olchefske
- My initials? DO (say it like, do this, do that)
- My passion? Stamping
- So naturally...DOstamping, right?
- I guess it’s not very magical, but it is logical. So now you know.
Dawn’s Story
I started out as an accountant—yes, the classic “bean counter” with a business card to prove it (Chief Bean Counter, aka: Controller). But beyond numbers, I’ve always worn many hats: woman, wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, Girl Scout, mentor, leader… and now, unexpectedly, artist.
Creativity was something I admired from afar. I joked about “creative accounting” and wore a sweatshirt that said, “A Little Creativity… It Makes a World of Difference.” But I never saw myself as truly artistic.
Then came the magic moment: my sister dragged me to a Stampin’ Up! workshop. I’d only stamped the Girl Scout logo before, so I had no idea what was coming. I didn’t know it then, but in that one night, POOF! (that was the magic wand) my life literally changed. I fell in love with stamping, hosted my own workshop, and within a year became a demonstrator.
From there, it snowballed—workshops, stamp camps, classes, clubs, and a growing community who loved my cards and called me talented. I resisted the label “artist,” insisting it was the stamps doing the magic. But over time, I began to see my own magic: an eye for color, layout, and joyful design!
Now, 23+ years since that fateful, magical night, stamping has taken me around the world* and brought endless joy. And yes, I’ve finally added “artist” to my list. I guess you could call it a journey from “bean counter” to “creative beacon”!
I can’t wait to see what new magic will happen in my future!
