Dawn’s Birthday Celebration: Concord Crush meets Because I Care with Vellum Dry Embossing Technique

Welcome to Dawn's Birthday Celebration

This week I'm sharing some of my favorite things from the 2010-2011 Stampin' Up! Idea Book & Catalog.

Dawns Favorites:
Because I Care
Stamp Set (Level One Hostess Stamp Set)
Stylus (#100663)
Vellum Cardstock (#101858)
5/8" Organza Ribbon (#114319)

Dawns Card:
…is a card I made at a shoebox swap I attended at the end of June.  The card designer was Lisa Petricka (a fellow demonstrator).  I instantly fell in love with her card and have been using it at several events this summer, where my customers have fallen in love with it too! It's a simple, fast card that has a WOW vellum technique feature!

Vellum-Hydrangea
Dawns Stamping Tips – Dry Embossing Vellum:
1.  Stamp onto vellum and let dry
2.  Turn vellum over
3.  Use end of Stylus to rub over areas of your stamped image, either by tracing the image outline or rubbing on areas of "white space".  (which was what was done on this card)
4.  Watch rubbed areas "turn" white.
5.  Turn back over and attach to your project

  1. I loved making this card at your garage sale/open house! “Because I Care” is a beautiful hostess gift, and it’s also nice that it’a Level One, and more obtainable.

  2. Apple Blossoms and Occasional Quotes – although I don’t think I’ll ever be able to get Occasional Quotes but I did get Apple Blossoms which thrilled me!

  3. Oh Dawn, I just love this card. Looks like a really fun technique to try. I really like the hostess set Birthday Bakery (but I have a major sweet tooth). Thanks for sharing. Leslie

  5. Beautiful card! This is my favorite Hostess Level 1 set. The flower is just so beautiful. And of course, Concord Crush is my favorite In-Color. TFS.

  6. Another beautiful card and technique shown here. Have seen several great ideas using Because I Care stamp set, but think I’d find more uses for Apple Blossoms (but I’ll never attain that hostess goal). Heck, I’d just be thankful to win anything! Happy Friday the 13th Birthday, Dawn!

  7. My favorite hostess set would be Apple Blossoms. I also like Punch Potpouri and Because I Care. Many good choices with hostess sets this year. Thanks for the chance to win and Happy Birthday.

  8. Happy Birthday Dawn… hope Friday the 13th is a very lucky day for you..play the lottery. As for my favorite hostess seet, I really love the Punch Potpourri stamp set. I have the coordinating punches that can be used with this set so all I have to do is stamp and then punch!

  9. Such a cute card! My favorite part about it is that when I tried making it I was in a hurry and kept poking the stylus through the vellum, but when all was said and done, you couldn’t even tell 🙂 Thanks for sharing this card.

  10. Oh, I don’t know if I could choose a favorite. I could use Occassional Quotes for a lot of things, but the Punch Potpourri is very versatile, too. Happy Birthday and thanks for the chance to win blog candy!

  11. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAWN!!!!! I think my favorite new hostess set is a tie between “Because I Care” (LOVE the hydrangea) and “Punch Potpourri”…because I have practically every punch Stampin Up sells! LOL!!

  12. Happy Birthday and many more! It is sort of a toss up: I love this set with the hydrangea but wondered if I could make it look as cool as everyone else seems to. The other favorite set is the Cute by the Inch. I love to make little cards and that would be so fun to use. I can’t wait for my party to see what I can get!

  13. Happy birthday, Dawn! I think Because I care has to be my favorite out of the bunch. I also like the playful pieces, but it’s a level 3 so it would be hard to get.

  14. Happy Birthday Dawn! I really like the technique you used on your card and will definately try it. I love the Because I Care set but Apple Blossoms is a close 2nd. Thanks for your inspiration.

  15. The “Because I Care” set is amazing and is an absolute MUST, however my personal favorite has to be “Occasional Quotes”! Because I make SO many cards for my entire family, it’s purposes for me are endless!! 🙂

  17. Hi Dawn,
I was ready to administer a shot to a 5yr. old girl getting ready for kindergarden. She looked at me with teary eyes and said, “why do I have to get a shot”? I said, “because I care and I want to keep you well. After the shot was given, the little girl said with tears flowing down her face, “thank you nurse”.

  21. Dawn,
I just saw your dry embossing with vellum yesterday and I was not happy until I got a stylus to make a card with “Because I Care”!! I was so pleased with that one that I dug around in my stamps for other stamps that I could dry emboss. What a neat idea and I will be using it in the future!
